Are you constantly replacing the pressure switch on your 12v water pump? Over the years we have found this to be one of the top problems missionaries face with an off grid pressurized water system. The Shurflo 2088 pump is a robust unit that rarely fails, except for the pressure switch. I have seen missionaries go through 5 of these in a year. Thankfully the switches are cheap to replace. However, as we all know, the time spent to do the repair is a non-renewable resource.
We have found a solution. Product PMP025 combines a commercial grade pressure switch with a 12v MOV to minimize arcing and prolong switch life. You could buy a couple years’ worth of Shurflo replacement switches for the price of PMP025, but this switch can be installed in less than an hour and should last the life of your pump. The internal switch does not need to be removed and will serve as a backup in case PMP025 fails. Installing the new switch requires a tee fitting somewhere on the pressurized section of the plumbing system and enough wire to reach the pump. Most systems will simply need a ¾ x ¾ x ¼ galvanized tee installed on the output of the pump.
If you do not have a pressure tank currently installed on your system, we highly recommend the On Demand Pump Kit (PMP005), which includes a pre-filter with washable screen and flush valve, fittings, connecting hoses, pressure gauge and pressure tank with internal bladder. The pressure tank will increase pump life by drastically reducing the amount that your pump cycles on and off, and will even allow you to run up to a gallon of water at night without turning on the pump and waking up the kiddos! This kit comes with a tee already installed which makes adding a PMP025 switch even easier.
